The New York RanGrrrrrrs

The New York Rangers defeated the Washington Capitals by a score of 6-3 at Verizon Center on Friday afternoon/evening. The Caps had a few flashes of good offense but they must have had too much turkey last night because they had a ton of poorly defended plays.

The goaltending didn't help much as Neuvirth gave up at least 2 goals he should have been able to stop. Neuvy needs to do some infield practice or something to improve his gloving cuz he is like Snoop and Ferrel with the puck, droppin it like it's hot.

After a great 1st period of penalty kill and defense the Caps came out of the locker room to give up 3 straight goals in the 2nd period. Brouwer scored on a tip in and Carlson scored on a slapper from the blue line bringing back hope, but the Caps let the Rangers score a 4th goal in the period killing the momentum like it was a Thanksgiving turkey.

In the 3rd, the Caps started to do less dump and chase and were making more one on one moves into the zone. As Borat would say it was "very nice". It didn't help much as they lost the final period 2-1.

The highlight of the Caps night on O was when Ovi came down on a 1 on 3 and instead of doing some stupid drag move Alex just fired a missle top shelf past the goalie for his first goal at Verizon on the season. Where has that been all my life?

Did I mention that Alex Semin had another hooking penalty?

Next game tomorrow night in Buffalo, 7pm...

Notes & Questions:

  • I thought Ward had 3 good opportunities to score goals, and he missed on all 3.
  • In one intermission they compared Vokoun to a Volkswagen. His pads were air bags.
  • That Ovi hit before one of the goals was awesome.
  • I think hockey needs to add a turnover or error statistic
  • Any reason they went away from dump & chase? Coach's decision? Player's decision?

they do have a takeaway statistic! it's less reliable than some stats though, pretty subjective.

Is it individual, or a team stat. I want to give NewV an error on that missed glove save, and Marjo a turnover

Individual. There are takeaways and giveaways and I agree that it is pretty subjective.
