“We're trying to get more acclimated, I think, to the time,” coach Bruce Boudreau said. “We don't know if it works or if it has any effect or whatever, but we're going to see.” -- Washington Times
The idea is that the players body's will adjust to the time change better, and I completely agree with this theory. The coach also knows that Edmonton has a home game tonight, which the team could even possibly go to watch. Very cool.
I don't think something like this could ever happen in the NBA as the players are adults/babies and don't want to be stuck in a city for 2 days. I can't imagine seeing Lebron, Wade, & Bosh sitting in the crowd at a random regular season Wizards game. I can imagine them crying when the coach tells them they have to leave Miami early. You think those NBA stars would allow anyone to make them spend 2 extra nights in Edmonton!?
This whole roadtrip/scouting thing has a cool college/high school feel to it, and a real team feel. I'm on board, and I already am noticing the NHL team concept vs the NBA superstar concept (3 stars, 2 assists, etc). Let's Go Caps!

that's one of the major difference for me between hockey players and other professional athletes--you will almost never see a hockey player with an ego, and even the rare hockey player who does have an ego is nothing compared to some of the personalities in baseball/football/basketball. never been quite sure why--possibly it's the threat of being pummeled every night that makes it easy to stay grounded. nobody's too good to get hit!
There is, of course, a dark side to this strategy. More than one playoff series has been destroyed by late nights in Montreal strip clubs.
