Backstrom Goal Overturned For Some Reason

DC Sports Nexus ---- Saturday, October 5, 2013

Yay, it is something in hockey I don't understand.  Nick Backstrom scored a goal by smashing his hockey stick into the goalie mask of the goalie, and the puck bounces off the goalie and into the net.  After a quick discussion, the refs overturn the goal.

It appeared they thought there was a high stick penalty, and while they didn't add the penalty, the refs decided the goal wasn't allowed.  Or there was a high stick.  Or...ug...Whatevs.  Someone please explain in comments!

Minutes later the Caps couldn't score on a powerplay and then the Stars scored posing this sarcastic pondering from Locker.

"I thought it was tied, wasn't it?"

Cappy's Mikey C Ribz...Cappy's Mikey C Ribz...

According to an explosion that happened on Twitter, the Capitals now have a 2nd line center.  They traded Clay Eakin & a 2nd rounder for Dallas (I'm assuming starting?) Center Mike Ribeiro.  As someone who knows nothing about hockey positions, it was my understanding that this was a position that needed to be upgraded.  Also by looking at statistics and comparing Marjo to Mikey, this was apparently accomplished.

The reaction of fans on Twitter was mixed.  The "lover" fans immediately purchased their jersey's, changed their computer background to Ribeiro, and started their Ribz Shirtless Tumblrs.  The "medium" fans were happy to have an upgrade at a needed position.  The "want mores" are a little upset that Ribeiro is older and not the player they wanted.

According to the stats, Ribeiro scored 63 points last season.  To compare to the 2nd round game 7 losing Caps, top scorer was Alex Ovechkin with ... 65 points.  2nd place was Semin with 54.  I really don't see the problem here.

Well like it or not he is on the team...Oh and you can follow him on Twitter too...

Kari Wasn't Lehton-em-En

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, November 8, 2011

The Dallas Stars defeated the Washington Capitals on Tuesday night by a score of 5-2. The game was tied going into the 3rd period but the Stars went crazy and scored a quick goal to start the 3rd and then 2 quick back to back goals later in the period. The win marks the first time a team with a guy named Grossman has won in DC in a while.

Overall I would describe the game as "Poke Checks & Hold Ups". The game was really boring with both goaltenders covering up the puck over and over and over and over ... (i can keep going) ... and over again. Luckily the Caps don't have to see the Stars again.

The Dallas Stars looked like a much better team than the Caps who sometimes play that well, but not every night. The Caps were making passes to nowhere, dumping and chasing to nowhere, and not really playing tight defense.

Something that I realized is I really love a good hockey pass. As an amazing point guard, my favorite play in basketball is the pass. Backstrom had a sweet no-lookish assist tonight. Nicklas Nash perhaps.

Game notes & questions:
  • What is the red flower thing. Is that for the hockey team that died or something else?
  • Is it bad when a goalie mask comes off. Does it give away the true identity of the super hero? It kinda seems that way.
  • Why was Locker between the benches and not in the booth? Does that happen often? Have I just not noticed?
  • One of the Caps put a deliberate elbow to the face of one of the Stars (Erskine?) Will that not be a fine or suspension, looked kind of dirty in slow motion.
  • Finally, a successful "hold it here" tellestrator!
  • Can the stars change to Cowboys colors so I can hate them?

Ovi Does Dallas

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, November 7, 2011

Ovi is a great player, and his play has earned him a spot on the Washington Capitals. However, Ovi doesn’t have enough money to get to DC from Russia. To make some money Ovi gets a job working for Mrs. Greenfield at the ice rink. Mrs. Greenfield really likes Ovi so she promises to pay for Ovi’s trip to DC. In return Ovi has to do something that is a “surprise”. Ovi takes the money and after his first few games he gets a break and returns to the ice rink to see Mrs. Greenfield. He soon finds out what the surprise was…He has to go out and score a hat trick against the Dallas Stars. Goal for Mrs. Greenfield, Score one for Ovi.

On Tuesday night, the Washington Capitals are hosting the Minnesota North Stars...Dallas North Stars...Dallas Stars. Dallas is good this season. They have 10 wins and only 3 losses which gives them the best record in the league. The Caps are 2nd. Earlier this year the Caps played the other top team at time (Red Wings) and beat them for an early statement win.

Dallas has had quite the run lately. The Rangers who play pretty close by have been to the past 2 World Series. The Mavericks won the NBA championship back when that league existed. And now the Stars are doing quite well so far. The DC teams...only compare on the ice.

As long as Dirk Nowitzki doesn't show up and strap on the skates, and as long as the Caps don't play like they did on Saturday night against the Islanders, they have an opportunity to pull off another big early season win.

This is the only time the Caps play the Stars this year so this is my last chance to say... COWBOYS SUCK!'
