Ovechkin's Shootout Goal Sends Caps Into First Place
DC Sports Nexus ---- Thursday, April 4, 2013
The Washington Capitals defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday night at Verizon Center. Alex Ovechkin beat the goaltender with a nifty move and sank a huge shootout goal. The win moves the Caps from out of the playoffs into the 3rd seed position (lol).

Caps Win, DVR Loses
DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, March 13, 2012
The Washington Capitals defeated the New York Islanders in a shootout on Tuesday night in a game where my DVR decided that it would turn off during the overtime period so I smashed it til, it turned off. It went back on and isn't broken but thanks to the internet I know the Caps won.
The game was not looking good for the Caps in the early going as they trailed 3 goals halfway through the 2nd period thanks to 2 power play goals. One of the goals came about 5 seconds after an Ovi penalty, off of a faceoff loss, which has been a huge problem for the Caps as of late.
I don't really believe it, but the stat sheet says that Mike Knuble scored? Is he even on the team anymore? After the goal by the mystery man, the Islanders came back to take the 3 goal lead but Alex Ovechkin scored a goal in the final minutes of the 2nd period to give the Caps some hope.
In the 3rd period the Caps completed the comeback after an Orlov goal and another one from Ovi after it looked like he shot and tipped, shot and tipped. He didn't give up after the misses, which is a good sign for Ovechkin. The Caps kept the Isles off the board while Caps fans held their breath, and the Caps picked up the 1 pity-point.
The Overtime period went by without a score so they headed to a shootout (according to my sources). The shootout came down to Jimmy Hendrix who rock & rolled the puck into the net for the HUGE victory.
Keith Aucoin kept up his superior play and he is on quite a roll. He picked up three helpers in the contest. Jay Beagle who was also playing well picked up a trio of his own, except his were penalties. Ovechkin picking up two tip-in goals shows that he is crashing the net and with the other Alex struggling, it was nice to see him step up.
The Panthers kept up with the Caps and picked up a win at Toronto to keep the Caps back a point....We have to wait til Friday for the next game a biggie against the Jets in Winnipeg. If you are a Caps fan don't go into a bar and tell them to change a college basketball game to the Caps please...just sayin...

It's Not Even Our Birthday, But We Wanna Put Our Name On It
DC Sports Nexus ----

On Tuesday night the Caps travel to Strong Island to face the far from strong Islanders. Despite the Isle's record, this will be anything but Cake for the rolling Caps.
As we all know, the Caps often win 3 games in a row lately. However, they haven't been getting a win in game #4. So tonight, game #4, is the point the Caps need to break through.
Right now Laich, Semin, Beagle, and Aucoin are playing good hockey. The goalies right now seem to be a toss up in the eyes of the coach, which I hear is not exactly a good thing with the NHL playoffs looming. Let's hope the Caps can lick the icing off...gross...

Eddie Money Edition
Islanders @ Capitals
Tuesday, January 17th (7pm) CSN
I've got...2 tickets to paradise...
Actually I don't have tickets. I wish I did. Instead I have tickets to every Wizards game. Great. The Verizon Center aka Paradise should be rockin' tonight as the Caps can walk on water and are on a roll headed towards first place in the Southeast division. Someone give me free tickets! I occasionally write a blog. As Coconut Pete would say, "You think Eddie Money has to put up with this shit?"
The Caps need to take this win and get back on top where they belong. I don't want to let them go til I see the light, the light of first place. The Islanders suck. They can be my little baby. They are tied for last place in the East. DiPietro is injured of course and I don't even know who the backup is...perhaps another guy that signed a 40 year contract?
Take me home tonight...

Baby hold on to me...
Whatever will be will be, but the Caps have an opportunity and they need to take it. This is the first of back to back games and tomorrow night's game against Montreal looks like it could be filled with a lot of physical play and physical non play. The key to not having a letdown is to come out and score early and put this team away. Then think about some sweet revenge tomorrow

What Was That? That's The Ders...
DC Sports Nexus ---- Sunday, November 6, 2011
The Caps lost to the Islanders 5-3 after the Islanders turned into the Ders with under 2 minutes left and scored the game winner. Long Island Iced D pulled off the win & The Vokoun didn't look great on some of the goals he gave up. Whenever you miss 4 field goals you won't win the game...oh sorry wrong game...
I was trying to figure out how much time was left when the Islanders scored the game winning goal. However the combination of the NHL box score being annoying and mimicking soccer, along with my inability to do math, plus the fact that I can't figure out how to do time calculations in Excel made it impossible to figure out. 18:14. How is that helpful. Seriously. I think that is 1:46? I'm going with that...
Looking at the score doesn't really tell the story as the game was tied with under 2 minutes left. The Islanders ended up getting the game winning goal and then putting it in an empty net for the dagger.
Game notes & questions:
- How many times a game does the announcer say squeeze? He doesn't just say the word, but he makes it sound squeezy.
- I still can't figure out which announcer is which.
- There shouldn't be a rebound on a non-deflected blue line shot right?
- Does anyone else find it annoying when the announcer does the telestrator and he says Hold it here and the video doesn't stop so he says it again. Hold It Here. Hold It Here. Has he ever said only one?
- When are the TV timeouts?
How'd you like to stay up late like the islanders do? ...Wait for Santa to sail in with your presents in a canoe

Metropolitan Islanders, Contradiction? #areuseriousbro
DC Sports Nexus ---- Saturday, November 5, 2011
What's up broskies. There are thousands and thousands of islands in hte world. Hawaiian Islands. Samoa. Polynesian Islands. When I think of an Islander, I would think of those and 99% of all other islands before I thought of Long Island. Does anyone on Long Island consider themselves an islander? If someone said they were an islander would you ask if it was Strong Island?
They named the team that anyway? Are you serious bro? When they were naming the team did they realize that the NY Rangers also play on an island? I guess Manhattan doesn't have island in its name. Maybe when the Nets move to Brooklyn Jay Z will call them the NY Islanders also.
Editor's Note: I wish that the Caps were playing Rizzoli instead of the Isles. Does anyone even know what that show is? I think I know because it is on 106.7 The Fan's online feed commercials every single commercial break.

Check out Kings Of Leonsis...They Gave Me The Idea...
I remember a few years ago the Isles signed goalie Rick DiPietro to an insane 15 year contract and he has apparently been injured just about the whole time. He played last night, so I guess he will be in goal for the Caps game. Woo Woo Woo! You Know It!
Editor's Note 2: I'm hoping the Caps can pull off the win so I can fist pump and use the headline: Did The Caps Win? Isles-ay!
Notes for the game:
- The Islanders have only won 3 games and are Dr. Pepper 10 points behind the Caps.
- The Vokoun will be in goal for the Caps, DiPietro for the Isles.
- I don't think any Caps got hurt last night, and I don't think Mike Green healed in 24 hours, so ... same lineup?
- Eakin's NOT playing! ARE U SERIOUS BROOOOO!!!!
- If you don't watch wrestling, you won't get this stuff
