Alex Ovechkin Gets A Massage During The Game

DC Sports Nexus ---- Sunday, October 12, 2014

Life is good for Ovi. The Caps star scored 2 goals in the first period against the Boston Bruins on Saturday. Later, the camera cut to Ovechkin as he waited to hit the ice again for his next shift. Ovi was getting a neck/shoulder massage from the trainer. Livin it up!

Alex Ovechkin's First Goal Of The Season

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, October 1, 2013

Here is the first of possibly 60+ goals (according to Craig Laughlin during the pregame).  A lucky bounce off a stick right to Ovi who went high up into the crossbar for his first goal of the season, on the Power Play.  GIF!

Mike Wilbon Calls Ovechkin Pathetic, Tony Dubs Caps "Choking Dogs"

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, May 14, 2013

Tony Kornheiser and Michael Wilbon talked about Alexander Ovechkin on Tuesday following the Caps game 7 loss to the New York Rangers.  They discussed how Ovechkin was complaining about no penalties in game 6 and Ovi's conspiracy theory.  Here is what Wilbon had to say:

"I was in Chicago in the United Center watching Bulls/Miami last night and I get a tweet with the score, a picture of the scoreboard when it was 3 nothing, and I'm like Ok, the Washington Capitals have choked like few other NHL franchises have choked over a period of 30 years, But I don't even believe this, this photo is doctored, I couldn't believe that. When you go out like this, you have to SHUT YOUR MOUTH!!!"

Alex Ovechkin Crushes Evander Kane

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, April 23, 2013

So this Evander Kane dude was all tryin to like get the Jets back in the game against the Caps.  He even scored a goal.  The audacity!

Well Alexander Ovechkin wasn't going to have any of it!  Ovi laid out Kane so hard that the Jets forward went immediately to the bench at a slow and hobbling pace.  Locker said that Kane even went back into the locker room.  They showed Kane sitting on the bench moments later still shaken up from the hit.  Moral of the story?  Don't mess with Ovi.  GIF follows:

Erat Scores First Goal, Caps Fans Wave Goodbye To Forsberg

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, April 16, 2013

Martin Erat was traded for Filip Forsberg, one of the Caps top prospects, just a few weeks ago.  The move brought with it a lot of negative fan reaction towards the trade and towards the Caps general manager George McPhee.

But on Tuesday night when an Alex Ovechkin's shot/pass hit Martin Erat perfectly on the stick for the easy tap in goal, Erat earned his first point as a Washington Capital and the trade was immediately vindicated.  At least, that's what a lot of people think (sarcastic or not)...check out the fan reaction on Twitter.

Backstrom Gets Cheap Shot, Ovechkin Gets Angry

DC Sports Nexus ----

On Tuesday night against the Toronto Maple Leafs, Nicklas Backstrom was boarded dangerously into the wall near the bench by the Leafs Jay McClement.  Alex Ovechkin was not having any of that.  The great 8 sped over to the aid of Nicky and tried to lay down some good old fashion ice justice on the Leafs before a giant scrum broke out and everyone hugged.  The GIF:

Ovechkin Breakaway Score And Celebration

DC Sports Nexus ---- Saturday, April 13, 2013

It was an exciting first period for the Washington Capitals on Saturday evening at Verizon Center.  In their matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning, Alex Ovechkin scored a breakaway goal to take the temporary goal scoring lead over opponent Steven Stamkos.  What he did after the goal was vintage Ovechkin.

Ovechkin's Shootout Goal Sends Caps Into First Place

DC Sports Nexus ---- Thursday, April 4, 2013

The Washington Capitals defeated the New York Islanders 2-1 in a shootout on Thursday night at Verizon Center.  Alex Ovechkin beat the goaltender with a nifty move and sank a huge shootout goal.  The win moves the Caps from out of the playoffs into the 3rd seed position (lol).

Hendricks Paralyzes, Perreault Goes Nuts

Caps Overcome Two Goal 3rd Period Deficit, Win 2nd Straight

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, February 12, 2013

Down 5-3 with half the 3rd period behind them, Washington Capitals fans began to push the panic button.  Fans were firing the GM, cursing the team, and getting internally angry.  Read some of the tweets below.

But the Caps didn't care about those fans or what they thought.  Instead they just played hockey, tying up the game and winning it in OT.

In OT Backstrom slapped a perfect pass to Troy Brouwer setting him up on the breakaway.  Brouwer couldn't get the puck past the Florida goaltender but he followed his shot and stuffed the puck into the net for the Caps 2nd straight win.

The Caps scored first on a Mike Ribiero powerplay goal but the Panthers came back and notched 2 to go into the 2nd period leading 2-1.  One of the "highlights" of the opening session was the "fight" that took place between Alexander Ovechkin and Kris Versteeg (watch it here).

Alzner and Hendricks each scored in the 2nd period, but the Panthers got 2 goals of their own putting the Caps in a 4-3 situation going into the final frame.

After the Panthers scored almost 7 minutes in, right when the fans began to give up, the Caps came back with a Eric Fehr deflection goal and then an Ovechkin PPG off of the initial faceoff in a matter of seconds.

Just 32 seconds into the OT, Brouwer scored the game winner.

Ribeiro continues to be the Caps best player scoring a goal and picking up 2 assists.  Backstrom and Ward also had 2 assists.  Ovi also had an assist to go with his goal.  HOCKEY!  ASSISTS FOR EVERYONE!!!

The Caps won 2 in a row for the first time this season.  Next up, the Lighting on Valentines Day.  Be mine!

Alexander Ovechkin Fighting (or dancing) with Kris Versteeg

DC Sports Nexus ----

During Tuesday night's game between the Florida and Washington, the Panthers Kris Versteeg gave Alex Ovechkin a cheap-shot cross-check causing the Capital's Great Eight to take offense.  Gloves went flying and the waltz began.  Except it was really more like a waltz than anything else.

The two players spun in circles holding each other, and maybe a punch or 2 was thrown, but not really things NHL fight dreams are made of.

There was a roughing on Ovi and Versteeg and the cross-check on Kris, so not really a fight...but whatever...

Jeremy Roenick Doesn't Think Alex Ovechkin Works As Hard As Sidney Crosby, Is Fat

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, February 5, 2013

The DC Sports Junkies sat down with Jeremy Roenick on the premier episode of their new show Table Manners on CSN.  The show is great and despite what people were saying the other night, the Junks crushed it.  Check it out Tuesday nights at 11pm on CSN.

During one segment, the conversation turned to Alexander Ovechkin and his declining skillset and fatness. Roenick talked about how partying and lack of work ethic puts Ovi at a disadvantage, while talking about how hard Crosby works out.  A few quotes from Jeremy:

"I think he's [Alex] let himself go.  I think he stopped working out hard."

"One thing about Sidney Crosby, whether you like him or not, he will work until he has no more.  He will put in the work, he will put in the time, he will do what he has to do and I think Ovechkin hasn't put in the time.  And when you stop putting in the time, and you gain a little weight, I do believe he looks slow at certain times, you're worried about going out and partying, you're worried about being seen with the people, I think Ovi's gotten caught in that."

Roenick sort of described what may be the national perception of the difference between Alexander Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby.  Check out what Roenick said just a few years back.  Seems to have shifted gears from yelling at Mike Milbury about Ovi vs Crosby:

The show was fun, you should def check it out.  Tuesday nights.  11pm.  CSN.

Wizards Worst Team In The League...What? Caps? Really?

DC Sports Nexus ---- Thursday, January 31, 2013

The Washington Capitals lost to the Toronto Maple Leafs on Thursday night at the Air Canada Center 3-2.  With the loss and a Florida win, the Caps are now in last place in the NHL.  Meanwhile, the Wizards are 29th out of 30.  Not a good year for Ted Leonsis.

The Maple Leafs attempted 40 shots on goal compared to the Caps 22.  Much of that had to do with the fact that the Leafs had 8 powerplays compared to the Caps 2.  However despite the penalty discrepancy, each team only netted 1 goal on the PP thanks to the Caps PK and some great goaltending by Michal Neuvirth.

The Caps got on the board less than 2 minutes in with a goal by the team's leading goal scorer Alex Ovechkin Joel Ward (4) on a nifty pass by Mike Ribeiro which had Locker in quite the tizzy.  But the Leafs cashed in on the powerplay soon after.

Ovechkin notched a powerplay goal (I don't remember the last time he scored on even-strength) in the 2nd period off a pass by, you guessed it, Mike Ribiero.  Ribz is the Caps assist leader with 7 already on the season.

When the Caps weren't on the PK they were knocking the Leafs backwards.  But in the 3rd period the Maple Leafs went on a barrage, tying the game and then taking the lead in a matter of minutes.

The Caps made a final push in the final minutes (including Ovechkin running laps around the goal), but when an Ovi shot hit the post in the closing seconds, the Caps chances were up.  Final score, Leafs 3, Caps 2.

Next up for the LAST PLACE Caps, the Flyers at home on Friday...

Happy Halloween...Oh Wait, Not So Happy...Lockout

DC Sports Nexus ---- Wednesday, October 31, 2012

Here is a Pittsburgh Penguin fan and his Halloween costume.  He had hockey pads, gloves, jersey, and Halloween mask.  However, he was not Sidney Crosby.  Instead he was the "Toothfairy" which is what he calls Alex Ovechkin or something.

This guy owns more Caps gear than Penguins gear, most with similarly terrible jokes on them.  I believe he also blacked out his tooth with a sharpie to make it look missing.

And here is Caps Halloween...which is almost impossible to hear.  Transcript of the story after the jump:
