DC Sports Nexus ---- Wednesday, April 17, 2013

A couple of Washington Capitals fans were down in Miami Rocking the Red as they watched the Washington Nationals take on the Miami Marlins.  CAPS FANS ARE EVERYWHERE!

Nexus Connections: Slapshot Dances And Gangnams At Nats Game

DC Sports Nexus ----

Sometimes the different DC Sports teams all come together to provide worthy (or non-worthy) fun and excitement.  Instead of just posting it a zillion times, this segment will just link you over to the main story.

You just saw Slapshot help deliver the flying clothesline to Teddy of the Nats.  Now watch as an inflatable version of the Caps eagle dances to Drake, Pitbull, and of course, as all mascot bits end, to Gangnam Style.  Do we really have to keep ending our mascot bits with that?

Nexus Connections: Slapshot At The Nats President's Race

The Washington Capitals mascot Slapshot was involved in the Washington Nationals game on Sunday afternoon.  The giant eagle got down on his hands and knees and had his friend fellow mascot G-Wiz from the Wizards jump off his back and get some major air before landing the clothesline on President Teddy.

Nexus Connections: Nationals Bullpen Attends Caps Game, Caps Collapse

These 3 Washington Nationals pitchers helped the Nats lose to the Braves on Friday night.  Then they went to the Caps game the next day and the Caps blew a 5-1 lead.  Yeah, that pretty much sounds about right.

Greatest Website Ever Lets You Know When Papa John's Is Half Off

DC Sports Nexus ---- Friday, April 12, 2013

Who doesn't like half price pizza?  Give up? The answer is nobody.

Some people may not be the biggest Papa John's fans, myself being one of them, but on a Friday afternoon when I can order a bacon/mushroom/pepperoni pizza, buffalo wings, bread sticks, and cheese sticks for around $20, I don't really care.  And now there is a now a new website that will change your pizza eating life.

Another DC Garden Gnome: Caps Nicklas Backstrom

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, January 28, 2013

Last summer the Washington Nationals minor league affiliate the Hagerstown Suns had an interesting giveaway idea.  Instead of doing a typical bobblehead to commemorate the games Bryce Harper played for them, they decided to turn the rookie into a garden gnome.  (Look how much that looks like Bryce...lol)

Well, the Washington Capitals have decided to go the gnome route, giving away a Capital One Nicklas Backstrom garden gnome on Tuesday February 5th against the  Toronto Maple Leafs.

Check it out as it was revealed: (h/t @PuckBuddys, @CallYourBluff)

And if you want to get your gnome on earlier, you can purchase one of these Washington Capitals garden gnomes from the internet.  There are a variety of different little guys.  They are pretty cool:

Hockey October Becomes Baseball October?

DC Sports Nexus ---- Wednesday, September 19, 2012

For those of you who were unaware, there are other sports in DC.  There is even a baseball team!?  As a hockey fan you may not notice because typically the Nationals season is "over" by May.  However this year they are going to be playing baseball games...in...OCTOBER!?

The hockey lockout news isn't good, and I would suggest you watch my favorite team the Wizards, but...I don't want to do that to you...I'm a nice guy.

This young fan is probably pretty pissed that there is an NHL lockout, but that isn't stopping him from watching another DC playoff team...yes...another team in the city is going to be in the playoffs besides the Caps.

So while we sit around and wait for hockey to start, and while me and 10 other guys watch the Wizards play, there will be another entertainment option in town.  So head down to the ballpark, wear your Ovi jersey, but don't forget to throw on the Curly W while you are there.

Nexus Now: Still A Lockout

DC Sports Nexus ---- Thursday, August 23, 2012

Our Caps coverage has been pretty weak lately.  Between my writers...not writing...and with lots of Nationals coverage happening we aren't doing as much as we should.  One of the reasons is that I am trying to pretend that there is no lockout happening.  In order to do that, I have to ignore all the news about it.

To tide you over, check out our 2nd episode of Nexus Now, and we promise more Caps stuff to come...eventually...

Nexus Now Episode 1

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, August 13, 2012

At the DC Sports Nexus, we created a show to add to our coverage of the DC Sports teams.  The show is called Nexus Now and will be a weekly or monthly show with lots of fun stuff.  Each time we do it we will try to add new stuff and actually turn on the HD switch on our cameras.

In the first (and possibly only) ever episode, we interview the famous Nationals Rally Kid, a huge 10 year old Nats fan who is traveling around the country trying to hit every Major League Stadium.  We talk about how he helped the Nats win, and we talk to his father about the famous Bob Carpenter Scorebook and the secret Carp doesn't want you to know.

I also talk about each of the 4 DC Sports teams, watch some dancing by umpires and Davey Johnson, and my favorite part, "Oh, Hello"!  Check it out!

Rod Langway Highlights Capitals Day At Potomac Nationals Game This Sunday

DC Sports Nexus ---- Wednesday, August 8, 2012

The Potomac Nationals are a minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals and they play their games out at Pfitzer Stadium in Woodbridge, Virginia.  The P-Nats, as they are called for short, will be hosting WASHINGTON CAPITALS DAY at the ballpark this Sunday, August 12th during their 1:05pm game.

If you have never been to a minor league baseball game before they are really fun.  It is a cozy atmosphere where every seat is a good one and there are always crazy things going on in the stands and wacky promotions left and right.  If you haven't been to a game and are a Caps fan, then this Sunday is a good opportunity to attend.

Plus, tickets range from only $9 - $15! What a deal!

The day will feature the Red Rockers (aka the Caps cheerleaders spirit squad), Slapshot the mascot, and Washington Capitals great from the 80's and Hockey Hall of Famer Rod Langway signing autographs.

Langway is a really nice guy.  Back at Caps Fan Appreciation Day he was walking around in his jersey (pictured) signing autographs for everyone.  Just walking around like he was one of the crowd.

The players on the P-Nats will also be signing autographs before the game so if your kid is a big Rob Wort fan then race out to Woodbridge on Sunday.  Kids can also run the bases after the game. and Teddy Roosevelt, giant racing President, is also scheduled to make an appearance at the park.

The player to watch out in Potomac right now is Anthony Rendon.  He is a top prospect for the Nats and will probably be playing somewhere in the big squad's infield in the future.

Read more on the event at the P-Nats site and go there to get tickets/directions

Caps Fan At Nats Game In Houston Goes Hard

DC Sports Nexus ---- Monday, August 6, 2012

Here is a scene from the Washington Nationals game in Houston against the Astros on Monday night.  This Caps fan is a true Caps fan.  Chugging a beer, wearing a Camo hat.  Rocking the Red!

Meet Caps Basketball Peeps & Watch Baseball

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, June 26, 2012

Next Tuesday, July 2nd, the Washington Nationals are hosting a "Ignite Your Nattitude Tweet-up" for fans on Twitter.  I'm sure it will be nothing compared to the RMNB Parties, but it should be fun nonetheless.

That's great, Nationals, blah blah.  But we are taking the opportunity to piggyback off of someone else's group tickets/party event (like usual) to hang out with other Caps fans at the ballpark.

Plus, this will give you the reader, a chance to meet some of the writers from the DC Sports Nexus.  I will be there along with baseball writer Dru (Caps fan) and hockey writer Camilla (Caps fan) as well.  We would love to hear your thoughts on our writing, suggestions, etc as well as talk NHL Draft and Mike Ribeiro and Coach Mystery McBean.

So come meet us at the ballpark!

Details:
  • You buy tickets here for $20 each, plus fees turning it into more like $25 each.
  • Tickets include $6 Credit for Concessions
  • The game is Tuesday, July 3rd
  • The game starts at an odd time, 6:35pm
  • The Nats are playing the San Francisco Giants that night
  • Seats are decent, Outfield Seats, not in the upper deck
  • Post-Game Fireworks
  • Brolos are welcome
Some of us are going to get there around 4:30, so tweet us @Dru90 @TheDugsSports and come find us most likely at the centerfield barwalk!

A Caps Fan Guide To The Washington Nationals

DC Sports Nexus ---- Tuesday, May 15, 2012

Just because the Caps season is over doesn't mean you have to stop watching great DC sports.  As I type this the Washington Nationals are first place in the division.  I know many of you already watch the Nats, and others of you never will, but if you want some fun coverage I'll be continuing the Caps Basketball style at Woeful Nats.  And here are some of the things you should know:

Don't worry, Caps Basketball is not going to stop.  More fun to come all year round!
